OUR PASTOR

Rev. Demond Hairston is a native of North Carolina. After being born in Laurinburg, he spent the majority of his youth in Winston-Salem and Charlotte. He is a product of the Forsyth County School System and a proud alum of Averett University, Danville, VA. There he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with concentrations in Clinical Counseling and Cognitive Psychology. He is also an alum of Hood Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Divinity Degree. Rev. Hairston is currently working to attain the Doctorate of Ministry Degree at United Theological Seminary.
Rev. Hairston began serving in the Preaching Ministry in 2012 and was appointed by Bishop George E. Battle Jr. to his first pastoral charge, McAuley Memorial AME Zion Church in Mt. Gilead, NC, in May of 2016. In May of 2018 Bishop Battle appointed him to serve the New Zion AME Zion Church, in Robbins, NC. From there he was appointed by Bishop Kenneth Monroe, as the Pastor of the York Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Greenville, NC. He has most recently been appointed by Bishop Daran H. Mitchell to serve the Blessed people of Daniel Chapel AME Zion Church in Phoenix, IL.
Along with his work in Ministry, Rev. Hairston either served on or currently holds membership with various community boards and organizations. Currently, Rev. Hairston serves as the President of the Board of Directors for Operation Sunshine, a female youth mentoring program in Greenville, NC. He is also the immediate past President of the Montgomery County Branch of the NAACP. Some of the other boards he has served on
include, but are not limited to, the Youth and Families Advisory Board for Montgomery County Cooperative Extension, the Montgomery Crisis Board, and Robbins Area Christian Ministries, Hearts on Fire Outreach Ministries, and the Electrical Systems Technology Advisory Board for Pitt Community College. Rev. Hairston is a proud charter member of the Iota Nu Nu Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.
He is happily married to Shyla Hairston. They recently celebrated 13 years of wedded bliss. He is also the proud uncle of a host of nieces and nephews. Rev. Hairston believes that his life's mission to is to serve God by preaching the gospel and cultivating authentic community.

REV. DR. HARRY SPIGNER
Dr. Spigner retired from Jones Tabernacle AME Zion Church in Indianapolis, IN. Prior to that assignment, he pastored Daniel Chapel AME Zion Church for 14 years.

REV. DR. MICHAEL ROUSE
Dr. Rouse retired from St. Catherine AME Zion Church in New Rochelle, NY. Prior to that assignment, he pastored St. Matthew-Gordon AME Zion Church in Chicago, IL. Upon retirement, he moved back to Illinois and made Daniel Chapel his home.
REV. MELVILLE KING, JR.
TRAVELING PREACHER
Rev. King serves faithfully at Daniel Chapel as a Sunday School teacher, worship participant (reading scripture, praying, singing in the choir, and playing bongos) as well as participating in the prayer calls and Bible Study. Outside Daniel Chapel, he serves at Waterford Nursing Home, leading the seniors in Bible Study and prayer service.
BRO. VERNIS 'TONY' MIMS
Bro. Mims faithfully serves by reading scripture and praying. He attends Sunday School, active with the Men's Ministry, and consistently encourages others to be a part of this fellowship. As an over-the-road truck driver, his ministry stretches for miles across the highways.
BRO. NIKOLAUS KNIGHT
Bro. Knight recently joined the laborers at Daniel Chapel on the ministry team. He is currently serving at the local level, and will be referred to the District Conference in 2026. Nik came to us in 2025 as a musician and has since become the Minister of Drama and Arts.
SIS. ANDREA CROSS
Sis. Cross recently joined the laborers at Daniel Chapel on the ministry team. He is currently serving at the local level, and will be referred to the District Conference in 2026. Andrea sings in the choir, and serves as the Superintendent of Sunday School as well as the Leader of Leaders for the Class system.
